KWL Digital Third Edition: Year 8

To Know, Worship and Love has launched some new chapters for the Third Edition of Year 8.

This current release of Year 8 material incorporates a streamlined Core Content for each topic, limited to 3,000 words. Additional content for each chapter can be accessed via designated buttons. This enables teachers and students to focus on the key elements of each unit and then choose to explore extension activities and additional content as needed.

Chapter 1: Encountering Jesus in the Synoptic gospels

Overview:

This chapter focuses on selected passages in the Gospels of Matthew, Mark and Luke. These texts encourage a student to explore these key scenes and note the traits of Jesus that the various gospel figures encounter.

Chapter 2: Parables

Overview:

This chapter builds on the Year 7 Parable module and introduces a process for an analysis of a parable. It looks again at the structure and notes the link from Jesus’ parables to our Catholic sacraments.

Chapter 3: What is the Church

Overview:

This chapter on Church and Community looks at a Catholic parish and layout of the local church. It also addresses key elements of the faith and explores the role played by saints in the Catholic story.

Chapter 4: Prayer

Overview:

This chapter further explores the practice of Christian prayer noting the elements of praise, intercession and repentance. It looks at Mary’s Magnificat and some other classic prayers and offers an introduction to praying the Rosary.

Chapter 5: Trinity

Overview:

The Catholic Church professes belief in the Holy Trinity: the one God in whom there are three Persons — Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. This chapter explores how the mission of Jesus revealed to the early Church the unity and diversity of the Holy Trinity. Despite the difficulty of imagining three Persons in one God, the early Christians remained steadfast in their belief in the Holy Trinity.

Overview:

This chapter on St Paul looks at his background and conversion to Christ. It also explores the journeys this great Christian hero embarked upon to preach the gospel of love.

Chapter 8: St Paul: Writings and Teachings

Overview:

This chapter explores the strong leadership that St Paul gave to many Christian communities by his letter writing. The chapter looks at the structure of his letters and the core message: to know Christ.

Chapter 12: Sacraments Of Initiation

Overview:

Examines Baptism, Confirmation, and Eucharist as foundational sacraments, exploring their essential elements, symbols, transformative moments, and the specific graces that shape Catholic identity.

Overview:

Chapter 16: Celebrating being Catholic

Overview:

This chapter introduces the idea that the Catholic Church “breathes with two lungs”: Eastern and Western Churches. It explores the variety of Catholic churches and notes the key features of the Eastern Church. It specifically introduces the origins of the Maronite Church.

Chapter 17: Living the Christian Life

Overview:

Chapter 18: In the World

Overview:

This chapter, in looking at Saints in the Church, outlines the four element of holiness presented by Pope Francis. It then presents some great saints and some recent ones who courageously followed Christ’s call.
